Portrait Photography

This workshop focuses on the fundamentals of portrait photography. You'll learn about lighting, posing, directing your subject and image composition, giving you the skills to create portraits with greater technical confidence and creative control. By the end of the workshop, you'll be able to capture people with a stronger eye for both technique and creativity.

About the Teacher

Peter graduated in 1993 from the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague, specializing in photographic design. In the years that followed, he worked as a visual artist, creating installations in public spaces, wall objects, and light-based installations using LEDs, always with photography as a starting point. Since 2009, he has focused exclusively on photography again. Alongside his commissioned work (portrait and documentary), he travels to major cities around the world for his personal projects, where he seeks out staged scenes that align with his ideas.

Additional Information

Participants must have a DSLR camera or a mirrorless/compact camera that supports manual settings. Please also bring something to write with. It is recommended that you read your camera's manual beforehand, but there is no need to bring it with you.

The courses take place on the sixth floor of the OZW building at the VU Campus (de Boelelaan 1109).
